ITANAGAR, Dec 18: Governor BD Mishra delivered the 4th convocation address at National Institute of Technology, Yupia Campus, Papum Pare District today.

First Lady of the State, Neelam Misra, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Chairman, Board of Governors, NIT Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe were also present on the occasion among others.

In his convocation address, the Governor called upon the graduating students to start contributing towards  society which has contributed in their academic achievements. He urged upon the NIT graduates to show themselves worthy of their degrees and said that they are assets and future of the Nation.

The Governor advised them to take up their missions with a motto to work with integrity and succeed with integrity, unmindful of the challenges they have to face.

While giving a copy of the Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution along with the degrees, the Governor advised the passing out students to continue developing scientific temper, humanism and spirit for inquiry and reform.

Reiterating that Google cannot replace a teacher, the Governor advised the students to respect their teachers and be self discipline.

Commending the faculty for their achievement at national and international conferences and awarding of patents, the Governor advised them to move forward with time and constantly update their knowledge. He asked the teachers be the coach, friend, philosopher and guide to their students.  

Underscoring that NIT Arunachal Pradesh must be centre for research and inventions, the Governor wanted the NIT to use their research work for the progress of the people and make inventions for the development of the Nation.

Earlier, the Governor gave away the ‘Tagore Gold Medal’ to Ms Roshan Thomas for securing overall highest CGPA in Humanities subjects in the Bachelor of Technology Programmes for the year 2017. He also gave away the JC Bose Gold Medals to Mr. Avinash Nair and Mr. Pothabathula Sai Kiran for Best hardware project titled ‘Design and implementation of ELC for micro hydro power plants’ for the year 2017.

Speaking on the occasion, Guest of Honour, the Chief Minister Pema Khandu exhorted the students to put their degree and knowledge for the welfare of society. He said degree can be useful only when such achievements are put to use for welfare of mankind.

The Chief Minister said that Arunachal has achieved the distinction of best performing state in the education sector, which was awarded to the state by the India Today group. He also said under CM’s Adhunik Shiksa Yojana, smart classroom and model schools are being implemented.

The Chief Minister informed that the state government has also done away with no detention policy due to which quality of education was greatly hampered. He said students can perform well when their foundation in education in lower classes is made strong.

The Chief Minister said under recent cabinet decision, the state government has created more than 1300 posts for teachers in schools. He also said more than 180 posts of faculty have been created for filling up vacancies in government colleges.

The Chief Minister said that even after establishment of NIT in Arunachal for seven years, the institute could not shift to its permanent site at Jote. 

‘The state government is now taking steps in this matter and said work has started for Jote-Poma road,’ Khandu said.

 

He also assured that mobile and internet connectivity in the permanent site will be worked out by roping in BSNL and private players. He expressed happiness that the institute has finally got its permanent director.

The Chief Minister said that Arunachal has vast natural resources and need good policies to convert these resources to capital. In this direction, the CM said a policy conclave was organized recently and assured that policies proposed in the conclave will be implemented. He said the state government believes in Team Arunachal spirit and is willing to take all on board.

Khandu said North East today is becoming an attractive destination for investors and said the success of recently held NE Development Summit in Imphal is a pointer to that direction. He said state government will also soon organize an investor summit in the state to attract investors.

Chairman, Board of Governors, NIT Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe also spoke on the occasion. He appreciated the hard work put in by the students and the faculty. He expressed hope that with the blessing of the Governor and the Chief Minister, NIT Arunachal Pradesh will come up at par with other best technical institutes of the country in its permanent campus at Jote.

The Director, NIT, Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Kumar Garg in his welcome address informed at present the total strength of the institute is 882, which includes 696 B. Tech, 117 PG and 69 Ph. D level students. There are seven disciplines of Engineering and Technology along with Research programmes leading to masters and Doctor of Philosophy. The faculty members have published 88 research publications in reputed International Journals, 1 publication in National Journal, 31 in International Conferences and 14 research papers in National Conferences. In addition, the faculty members have contributed 2 Book Chapters. In all, Institute faculty members have filed 7 patents since last convocation, out of which 3 patents have been granted while 4 patents are in process.

144 students were awarded degrees in the 4th NIT Arunachal Pradesh convocation, which included 83 B. Tech degrees, 51 M. Tech Degrees, 3 Masters Degrees and 7 Ph. D Degrees.
