Demands a chapter on NE in national education curriculum

ES Newsdesk

ITANAGAR, Jun 4: In an unprecedented cyber event, netizens across North East India comprising of seven states took to social media, Twitter, to demand inclusion of a chapter on the region in national education curriculum. Drawing the attention of the Union government and the “who's who” of the country, netizens organised “Twitter Storm” to register its protest against repeated racial profiling, slurs and discriminations meted out to the NE people.
“I stand with the demand of inclusion of North East India curriculum in #NCERT and other educational boards like #ICSE and state boards. These demands are on the line of key recommendations made by Bezbaruah Committee Report,” said former Union Minister and current Congress MLA (Ruksin) Ninong Ering while adding that he had moved a Private member bill in 2017 for the compulsory teaching of North East India Syllabus.
I am hopeful that Prime Minister and Home Minister shall take note of this demand by the people of Northeast India and educate the world about us!, Ering quipped.
This event comes in the backdrop of a recent incident in which a YouTuber named Paras Singh from Ludhiana profiled former Union Minister and current Congress MLA from Ruksin, Ninong Ering as being 'non-Indian'.
Attributing  such attitude of the mainland Indians to lack of knowledge and information about the region , netizens demanded compulsory chapter about the region’s art, culture, history and geography in the national education curriculum.
Bolstering the “Twitter Storm “  event, Congress MP and Twitter star , Shashi Tharoor wrote , “ There is absolutely no doubt that the #NorthEastMatters. It's essential that a chapter on the NorthEast is included in the NCERT syllabus.”
We must know our own country better, he added.
