NIRJULI, May 23:In a first of its kind invention in the state, three students of the North East Regional Institute of Science & Technology developed a device, wearing which the user can command and manipulate home appliances by turning it on or off whenever desired sitting in a corner.

“The device can be used to control Internet of Things (IOTs) including various home appliances like led lights, lights of room, fan (12v), door bell and alarm clock, informed the inventor of the device, Shekar Suman along with his two of classmates Samrat Dhar and Abhsihek Poddar leading the research efforts in the Mechanical Engineering wing, NERIST under the guidance of Assistant professor, Nabam Teyi with active support from Assistant professor N Yadaiah and head of Department, Pradip Linga.

Applying electromyography technology, a person wears a head-mounted controller which measures brain waves (measuring meditation and attention levels) using electroencephalogram (EEG) which then gives the wearer “control” over a device.

“The device works with the signal received through the users brain, which generates brain waves depending upon different meditation and attention levels and by wearing the light device over the head, user can operate a number of gadgets and daily life equipments without touching them, with the sheer power of the brain waves using PLC,” informed Shekar.

"The receiving head gear will read the command of the user through brain waves, verify the authenticity of the sender and then operate," Shekar added confirming that a prototype has already been developed by the team and it is currently being tested successfully on commercially available devices.

“We are currently working on to make the device more efficient which can also control devices from a long distance to give ease of access to users, but due to financial constraints we are unable to make further progress in our project,” lamented the trio adding that if someone willingly supports and finances the project, it will one day prove an immense help in the development of science in the state.
