CHANDIGARH, Aug 26: An orientation cum meeting of North East youth leaders and student organization leaders was held here today at Don Bosco Navjeevan Society in which twenty youth leaders representing six North Eastern states of Arunachal, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Sikkim, participated.
An initiative of Don Bosco Youth Centre (DBYC), Itanagar in collaboration with Don Bosco Navjeevan Society, Chandigarh, the orientation meeting was in view of the 4th edition of North East Youth Fest, Chandigarh.
While briefing the participants about the origin and aims of organizing North East Youth Fest here at Chandigarh, Director, DBYC, Fr. Cyriac, recounted few unfortunate incidents that took place in the lives of North East youth like Nido Tania and Richard Loitam which inspired DBYC to rise to the occasion.
“North East Youth Fest Chandigarh should not be just another ‘festival’, but it should be educative, entertaining and morally good and make a sea change in the lives of North East youth residing here at Chandigarh”, he said.
Fr Regi, Director, Don Bosco Navjeevan Society, spoke of the necessity of coming up with a help desk for North East youth at Chandigarh and volunteered to provide free space for an office. He also suggested having state-wise orientation programmes for North East youth at least once a year.
