ITANAGAR, Mar 24: The Indian Institute of Packaging in association with department of Trade & commerce is organizing a one-day national workshop on ‘Packaging of Fresh and Processed Food Entrepreneurs’ for the micro, small and medium entrepreneurs of the state on March 25 next. 

Informing that the (IIP) has been directed by the Ministry of Food Processing Industry, to conduct national level workshops on Packaging of Fresh and Processed Food Products in the city, Deputy Director, Bindhan Das said that Arunachal being the center of many agro and horti products, if given support in packaging sector has tremendous potential to become one of the best state in food processing sector.

“If the producers engaged in food processing be given the latest information and opportunities about innovative packaging, it will not only boost the food processing activities in the state but small rural producers may be able to generate income from surplus produce,” added Das.

Sharing the details of the programme, Assistant Director, IIP, N Natraj  said that sole motive behind workshop is to promote the food processing sector in the state and to disseminate the latest information about packaging trends and its marketing opportunity to entrepreneurs with the available resources.

 “We will teach techniques along with several other ideas of packaging in the daylong workshop,” added Natraj adding that about 80 participants consisting of food processor, progressive farmers, entrepreneurs etc has confirmed their participation in the workshop.

 Strongly endorsing that good and attractive packaging could become an essential part in preserving food quality, minimizing food wastage, equal distribution of food, Director Trade & commerce Tokong Pertin said that most of the food producers in the state is not aware of many latest technologies that have come into the packaging industry, thereby failed to export their fresh products to national and international markets.

He stressed on the need to create awareness about the importance of packaging system among the entrepreneurs to give boost to food processing sector in the state.

Minister for Department of Trade & commerce, Wanki Lowang along with a host of bureaucrats  are expected to participate in the daylong workshop.
