TAWANG, Aug 29: A marathon race was organised at Tawang on the occasion of National Sports Day with the motto of promoting sports & fitness among the people. The event was organised by District Sports Authority, Tawang in collaboration with Human Right First and was supported by Tawang Brigade of Army and Monyul Sports Club on National Sports Day which is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary Hockey player Dhyan Chand.
The marathon was flagged off by Tsering Dolma, wife of Chief Minister Pema Khandu from the majestic Tawang Monastery to the popular Tawang War Memorial covering a distance of five kilometers. The marathon had four categories - Men’s open, Men's Veterans, Women’s open and Women’s Veterans. Around 200 men, women and children from all age groups and walks of life participated in the event. Prizes for the winners were given away at the War Memorial. Prominent personalities from the town also graced the occasion.
AALO: A marathon race participated by around 250 boys and girls was conducted by the District Sports department to mark the Sports Day celebration at Aalo Club today. Gijum Tali, DIPRO flagged off the race. The DASO, Aalo, Tumto Loyi laid stress on values of games and sports and incentives being offered by the government to eminent players of the state.
PALIN: National Sports Day was observed at General Ground, Palin under the supervision of Tarh Rajkumar, PET, GHSS, Palin. To mark the day, athletic events such as 100 m race, shot put and discus throw for both boys and girls were held. Further, a girls football match was also played between GHSS Palin and GSS Dui, in which the former defeated the latter by a 5-1 margin.
