ITANAGAR, Aug 12: National Librarians’ Day was observed today under the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), who is considered as father of library science in India. Dr. Ranganathan dedicated his entire life to library profession in India leaving a rich legacy.
At Bomdila, the day was observed at District Library, Bomdila with great enthusiasm.
Lobom Tamin, DL&IO Bomdila, while interacting with the gathering urged the participants to form reading habit. Because of the influence of mobile and Internet, today’s generation is losing reading culture. Reading fosters empathy, language skills, improved focus and concentration, mental stimulation, vocabulary expansion, better writing skills, he said.

At Khonsa, Kretkam Tikhak ADC Khonsa graced the function at the District Library Khonsa in presence of DDSE Hortum Loyi among others.
The ADC appreciated the DL&Information Officer for the idea of free membership drive/ registration for students. He urged the students to visit the library frequently as it is a powerhouse of knowledge. He also urged them to stay away from drugs and other addictive substances.
Winners of essay writing competition were also awarded cash prizes alongwith a dictionary on the day.
