ITANAGAR, Aug 7: The 4th National Handloom Day was observed in a befitting manner by Weavers Service Centre, Guwahati in collaboration with State Directorate, Textile and Handicrafts at its conference hall on Monday.
Display of antique handloom products by various SHGs, NGOs, Weavers from across the districts were the main attraction of the daylong celebration.
Outlining the importance of the day, IRS, Special Secretary, (T&H) Nitu Tsering who graced the occasion as Chief Guest exhorted all the weavers of the state to avail benefits being provided by central government through various schemes and programs initiated to uplift their economic condition and to increase production.
All India Handloom Board, member, Tadar Akap enlightened about various flagship schemes currently on implementation and appealed all progressive weavers to get enrolled themselves in the handloom census being carried out in the state to avail all benefits of government schemes.
Joint Director and Deputy Director, Textile & Handicrafts, Bornali Sur and Upen Ch. Boro, Technical Superintendent (WSC), Guwahati, Pankaj Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
