ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Tadak Nalo, Chairman, Arunachal Frontier Tribal Front (AFTF), has expressed strong concerns regarding the omission of the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) requirement in the recent Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) examination advertisement.
Speaking to the media, Nalo criticized the state government for failing to implement a 2023 resolution that mandated PRC for such competitive exams, raising questions about the lack of protective measures for indigenous candidates.
Nalo highlighted that Chief Minister Pema Khandu's government, despite the earlier resolution, has not ensured its implementation. Furthermore, he pointed out that the Chief Secretary is reportedly unaware of the issue, exacerbating concerns about administrative oversight.
The AFTF has demanded an official response from the government by Monday next, insisting on making PRC and Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates mandatory for eligibility in APPSC examinations. “In all other tribal states, PRC is mandatory for such competitive examinations, but in Arunachal, the government is ignoring this crucial issue. While it may not be a pressing problem today, it will certainly create complications in the future,” Nalo warned.
In addition to the PRC issue, the AFTF has called for structural reforms in the APPSC. Recommendations include setting a minimum working period of two years and a maximum of three years for commission members, along with a rotation system to promote fair governance.
Nalo also raised questions about the accountability of officials involved in the APPSC scam, including the termination of Taket Jerang and others implicated in past controversies. He criticized the lack of action against these individuals, who remain unaccountable despite previous public outcries.
