NIRJULI, Feb 5: Mayor, IMC Tame Phassang today launched the Nahar oil based ‘SHL Nahar Oil Soap’ developed by the Biodiesel Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Department of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) in line with the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative here at the NERIST campus.
Appreciating the Mechanical Engineering department team for the innovative idea, Phassang said that developing such cost-effective commonly used items that too with Nahar oil is a commendable job. “Mostly we use Nahar trees for decoration purposes only, but today the NERIST team of professors and scientists has proved that everything is useful with technology,” the mayor remarked. While urging the denizens to use such products for supporting the local entrepreneurs, Phassang assured that IMC will extend all-possible support to NERIST in its future innovative ventures. President, Arunachal Pradesh Chamber of Commerce-cum-corporator Tarh Nachung also appreciated the team and assured to extend support in marketing the soap if produced commercially. NERIST Director Professor H. S. Yadav emphasised on the significance of Atmanirbhar Bharat and urged the local industries to go for mass production so that local people can find more avenues of income generation.
Dean, Students’ Affairs & Regional Coordinator UBA NERIST Professor Pradip Lingfa informed that the soap has been developed under UBA, sponsored by the Union Ministry of Education. Besides the soap, we can develop biodiesel from Nahar oil and other products, Professor Lingfa added, informing also that under UBA at least five villages have been adopted where the villagers are helped with research and technology for becoming self-reliant. Earlier, Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department Sandeep Singh under whose supervision the soap has been developed elaborated the procedures and components used in its making.
UBA team members and the Heads of adopted villages were among others present during the launching event.
