ITANAGAR, Apr 18: Hundreds of people from the Galo community took to the street to participate in the peaceful protest rally organized against in-action of the capital police for not arresting the miscreants involved in vandalism at Mopin-Solung ground during preparation for the Mopin celebration on 1 April last.
People holding placards and shouting slogans for immediate arrest of the miscreants joined the rally that began from Akashdeep and culminated at Solung Mopin ground, Zero-point Itanagar.
General Secretary, Mopin Preservation Society (MPS), Goge Sora, said that the community is hurt by the inaction of the Capital police. “We had registered a case against the culprits the next day itself, on April 2nd.  It is the 16th day today yet no action has been taken against those accused,” he lamented informing that many representations have been submitted to the state government through various channels already.
He called the episode an insult to the entire Galo community. “Mopin festival is our identity. What happened is an insult to the whole community,” he added.
Sora also said that the issue is not communal but against the miscreants who are involved in the anti-social activities.  “It may happen to others as well, we have to be united to fight against such evil," he said calling upon every individual and Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) to support the movement.
The Galo People’s Federation, Galo Youth Organization and Galo Students’ Union and Mopin Preservation Society have sworn that the movement will be continued till the culprits are arrested.
“Our movement is going to be rigorous. We are not going to rest unless the arrests are made. We may go for bandh in all Galo inhabited areas in the second phase, added MPS general secretary.
After registration of case, we are giving full effort to arrest the culprits and case in under investigation’ informed Superintendent of Police Capital Region, Jimmy Chiram while refuting the allegation on political pressure on police.
