PASIGHAT, Apr 6: The 55th Mopin festival of the Galo community was celebrated in a befitting manner with traditional gaiety at the GTC Siying Gangging Compounds, Pasighat here on Monday to strengthen social unity, purity and love with great fervor. Main priest offered prayer to Mopin Goddesses Anyi Pinku Pinte for peace and prosperity.  
The festival commences with a ceremony where people smear rice powder on each other's faces. Since rice is their staple food, this is considered a holy ritual by the Galo people. People from all walks of life attended the celebration, witnessed the rituals and took part in traditional dance performances.
Gracing the festivities as Chief Guest, Pasighat East MLA and Advisor to Minister for UD, Municipality, Kaling Moyong in his message said, “Our age old festivals celebrated since time immemorial reflects our rich repository of traditions, culture and mythology that need to be passed down to the future generations”. 
Stating that Mopin is an agricultural festival, celebrated for a good harvest, good health, peace and prosperity, the MLA prayed to almighty Donyi-Polo for peace, brotherhood and a bumper harvest in the years to come. He appreciated the 55th CMCC’21 (Central Mopin Celebration Committee) President and General Secretary Taken Ringu and Harry Loyi respectively and their associates for celebrating Mopin in a grand manner. Moyong urged the younger generation to retain the age-old tradition and culture and practices. In his address, MLA Moyong assured that a common community festival celebration hall would be constructed soon at the "Giidi Notko", for celebration of all tribal festivals at Pasighat.  DIPRO
