CHANGLANG, Apr 12: With the aim of generating interest in sports among the youths of Changlang district and keeping them distant from anti-social activities, combined efforts of local MLA and State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte and District Administration headed by Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav have resulted in the establishment of a Shooting Sports Practice Hall here at the Government Higher Secondary School.
With funding from the MLALAD quota and support from 9 Bn Assam Rifles, the small yet meaningful sports infrastructure is an attempt to encourage the local youths to explore their hidden shooting talents, Pongte informed, adding that the AR battalion based in Changlang has taken the responsibility to equip the hall with required kits and train students. “This is a platform where students will get chances to show their skill and we would be proud if they get selected and represent our state in national and international events,” the MLA-cum- Deputy Speaker hoped. He further informed that to encourage the district’s youths in sports, the first-ever futsal court has been developed by the government. There are issues to develop a big ground here, so we have decided to create the facility for the district’s youths so they can use their time in sports instead of indulging in drugs and antisocial activities, Pongte said.
Appreciating the efforts of the local MLA and the District Administration, Minister, Sports and Youth Affairs Mama Natung said that sports is a potential game-changer and Arunachal has so many talents. “Creating such infrastructure will surely motivate and boost the determination of our youths. The shooting practice hall is another best way to keep our youths busy in games and sports. We believe that if proper training is provided, they may represent our state in national and international shooting competitions in the coming days,” Natung said with an air of optimism. Changlang has taken the first step by creating infrastructure like the futsal court and probably the department will take more such initiatives in other districts too, the Minister assured. “Due to tough geographical terrain it is difficult to create big sports infrastructure everywhere, so we will definitely review the idea of creating such futsal courts,” Natung added.
Elaborating on the practice hall, an officer from the AR Bn informed that any student interested in shooting may practice here. However, it will be more beneficial to those with NCC background, he said while assuring that proper support and training will be provided by Assam Rifles so that the students can take part in various shooting championships with confidence.
