ITANAGAR, Jul 31: In two different engagements, State Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) met Union Cabinet Minister for Drinking Water & Sanitation, Uma Bharati and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism, KJ Alphons in New Delhi today.

The Governor discussed with Uma Bharti regarding portable drinking water and toilet facilities in urban and rural areas of the State.

The Governor impressed upon the Union Minister for assistance in maintaining and sustaining the already constructed toilets in rural areas. He said that although every household has toilet facility in Arunachal Pradesh today but lack of water connection has raised a new challenge for the rural community. He suggested for provision of running water connection to toilets to make it sustainable.

The Governor also requested the Minister for toilet facilities in educational institutions, especially for girl students. He pointed out that with proper toilet facilities in schools, particularly in rural areas, the school dropping out can be checked and students in addition inculcate good personal hygiene habits.

In talks with Alphons, Mishra informed the minister about the potential of Arunachal Pradesh in tourism which will help the State to create employment opportunities, entrepreneurship and revenue generation.

“Our state has scope of developing spiritual tourism, eco-tourism, cultural tourism, Adventure tourism including development of special tourist circuits like Buddhist Circuit / Krishna Circuit etc. There is a scope for promotion of a new Buddhist Tourism Network to attract tourists from Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam to Buddhist pilgrimage centres in Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan along with Gaya and Lumbini,” he said.

The Governor emphasised the need for innovative projects in tourism and increasing the standard of hospitality service, since tourists specially look for novel experiences. He requested the minister for developing courses focusing on inherent capabilities of the State which are tourism and hospitality sector.

The Tourism Minister informed the Governor of his plan to visit Arunachal Pradesh for this purpose in September this yea
