LONGLIANG, Mar 27: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today led a high-level team that visited the fire-ravaged sites of Longliang village under the Lazu Administrative Circle of Tirap district for distributing relief materials and taking stock of ongoing relief and rehabilitation works carried out by the District Administration.
Mein was accompanied by Minister, PHE&WS and DoTCL Wangki Lowang, Minister, Education Taba Tedir, local MLA Chakat Aboh, MLA Wanglam Sawin, State BJP President Biyuram Wahge, Deputy Commissioner Taro Mize and other officials. Interacting with the fire victims the DCM assured all-out support from the state government’s end for restoration and re-establishment of the village. Referring to the state’s plan to develop three Model Border Villages in Eastern, Central and Western belts as announced in the annual state budget 2021-22, he assured to incorporate Longliang in next year’s budget as it is located near the Myanmar border. While requesting the villagers to identify a new site for establishment of the model village which will be having fire precautionary safety measures, Mein asked the local MLA to include Longliang under Chief Minister’s Adarsh Gram Yojana for proper rehabilitation of the villagers. Deputy Commissioner Taro Mize was also instructed to keep the village in priority list under various Central sponsored schemes wherever feasible.
Informing that the state government has sanctioned Rs 1,16,47,800 from the State Disaster Response Fund for providing immediate relief assistance to the fire victims under which Rs 1,01,900 will be given to each of the fully damaged household and Rs 5200 each to the partially damaged, the DCM added that Rs 50 lakh has also been sanctioned for purchasing CGI sheets and all relief amounts will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the victims through DBT. Responding to a memorandum submitted by the villagers regarding completion and maintenance of the Barap-Liangchang PMGSY road and operationalization of the Barap Health sub-centre, Mein assured to look into the matter for funding the road project and posting of required staff in the health sub-centre to make it functional.
The DC apprised the DCM about the steps taken by the District Administration such as setting up relief camps in the local school and community hall immediately after the incident. He also informed that electricity and water supply have been restored and books, pencils and uniforms have been provided to the students of the affected families. A health camp has also been organized in the village for medical check-up of the villagers to prevent any spread of diseases, he added. The DC further informed that contributions from civil societies, NGOs, religious institutions, student organizations and individuals are pouring in by cash or kind and the Chief Minister and the DCM have also contributed Rs 20 lakh and Rs 15 lakh personally. Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh for the purchase of CGI sheets from his MPLAD fund and the said contributions have been deposited to the DC’s Jan Suvidha Account and a committee headed by EAC Lazu will oversee its distribution, Mize informed, assuring along with that the amounts are being judiciously utilized for rehabilitation purposes and will reach the actual victims. Besides distributing the CGI sheets to the fire victims, Mein also provided financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. BJP State President Wahge and General Secretary Chau Zingnu Namchoom also provided Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased on behalf of the party.
