TEZU, April 12: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today while inaugurating a composite steel bridge over River Haju and dedicating it to the people of Lohit reiterated state government’s commitment to provide basic facilities like road connectivity, education, electricity and healthcare to the people.
The 40-meter long bridge which is the only communication lifeline between Tezu and Bhekhuliang during monsoon has been funded under RIDF-XX and executed by the PWD. Mein also inspected the Paya river flood plains to take stock of the developmental needs and laid the foundation stone for up-gradation of the new complex of Zonal General Hospital, Tezu. Addressing the gathering, the DCM assured all-possible help to the district health department and administration and committed to release immediately Rs 20 lakhs for repair and maintenance of the hospital’s quarters. Highlighting the issue of opium cultivation and substance abuse in Eastern Arunachal, Mein asked all to learn from Mother's Association, Aalo in tackling the issues and stressed on the need to turn to alternative livelihood means like areca plantation replacing opium.
Local legislator Karikho Kri while highlighting that the Zonal General Hospital caters to the four eastern districts of Anjaw, Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley and Namsai and also the nearby areas of Assam, urged the state government to transform it into a specialized First Referral Unit (FRU). DMO Dr CL Manchay shared the grievances faced by the health department like shortage of manpower and lack of quarters in the General Hospital.
