NAHARLAGUN, Mar 24: A 2-day awareness programme on Mental Healthcare Act 2017 (Provisions & Implementation) for the medical professionals and law enforcing agents was conducted by the State Mental Health Authority (SMHA) on March 23-24 here at the Conference Hall of DHS office.
Addl. DHS Dr S. Bhattacharjee inaugurated the programme which was attended by various medical professionals and police personnel. CEO, SMHA Dr Haniya Payee gave an overview of the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 and its implementation in Arunachal Pradesh since 2019. Psychiatrist from Midpu Mental Hospital Dr M. Pangkam spoke about establishment of Mental Healthcare facilities, inspection, licensing and minimum standards required under the Act. Psychiatrist Dr Misso Yubbey spoke about the rights of mentally ill persons and the admission and discharge procedures. Project Consultant, APSLSA Advocate Marie Riba gave a presentation on the legal provisions of mentally ill persons and the duties of the law enforcing agents in this regard.
The valedictory function was attended by Director of Health Services Dr M. Lego who emphasised on the emerging mental health issues in society and advised the law enforcing agents to work in tandem with the mental healthcare professionals.
