ITANAGAR, Jan 21: The newly elected mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Tame Phassang accompanied by the corporators of various wards, IMC Commissioner C Chukhu and officials today inspected the Solid Waste Management plant in Chimpu to review its current status.
While seeking details of the plant and its working condition from the engineers and technicians, Phassang urged the corporators to gather first-hand information on solid waste management and garbage control measures in their respective wards. “The motive of visiting the plant is to know the ground reality and get the necessary information for its revival so that the garbage issue in the capital is solved as soon as possible,” he said while speaking to the reporters. “I also appeal to the denizens  to take responsibility for segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste for easy disposal,” Phassang said while informing that biodegradable garbage can be recycled into manures in the plant itself which can be further used in kitchen gardens. Elaborating on the plant’s functional aspects, its consultant Roger Syiemlieh informed that household garbage that comes into it are fermented, treated and segregated through machines and only biodegradable items can be recycled as manure which takes at least 42 days.
The mayor along with the corporators and IMC officials also visited the Banderdewa check gate to see its feasibility for Smart City check gate, Ganga clock tower, Ghopur weekly market and the burial ground in Chimpu.
Earlier, he felicitated Phassang Yatup who constructed her house successfully under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Forest Colony, Banderdewa.
