ITANAGAR, Aug 28: The Capital district administration today carried out a mass social service cum awareness campaign on the theme ‘Say No to Drugs and Itanagar Safai Abhiyan’ in various wards of Itanagar Circle. Despite inclement weather, people from all walks of life actively participated in the social service.
The campaign is an initiative by the Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to see a clean and drug-free state.
Appreciating people’s response, Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Complex, Talo Potom said that citizens need to maintain the tempo in order to make Itanagar one of the cleanest cities.
‘Many initiatives have been taken by the state government with regards to cleanliness, drug de- addiction and rehabilitation but the entire exercise would be futile without the support of the denizens and hence a collaborative effort from all sections of society is the need of the hour,’ Potom said.
Also highlighting the importance of cleanliness, the DC urged the Corporators and Ward members to encourage the denizens to keep their homes and surroundings clean and to generate awareness on basic civic sense.
He also appreciated EAC (IMC) Datum Gadi for successfully conducting the drive across all the wards but due to heavy rains, the drive could be conducted only in a few wards and programmes at several wards were postponed and will be carried out later.
Throwing light on the programs and policies of the government to control the menace of drugs, State Nodal Officer Narcotics Control Board, Oli Koyu said that social acceptance of drug addicts is crucial to help a person recover.
Stating that drugs can kill the whole country, a whole generation, he said that community mobilisation is the most important tool against drug menace. 
The stigma attached with a drug addict always comes in the way of recovery as seen in the high percentage of relapse, Koyu said, urging parents and guardians to provide all the required support in such cases.
He said that the state government is making every effort to control the menace of drugs and with the initiative of the CS, a rehabilitation centre will soon come up in the Capital Complex. 
Dr Pulin Kabak Nabam, MO( RBSK) gave a detailed insight about drug addiction.
During the social service at Ward No 6, Taz Gyamar also spoke on the importance of cleanliness and extended full cooperation to the District Administration for the same.
Residents of Ward 11 and 12, along with both Corporators Gida Kaniar and Tai Yakia and Ward 1 led by Corporator Lokam Anand actively participated.
The DC also distributed I am Covid-19 vaccinated badges to all those who have completed 2nd dose of vaccine along with sanitisers and T- shirts.
EAC Aying Perme, DACO Tem Kaya and Yami Puri, one of the finalists of Arunachal Idol were also present. DIPRO
