While suggesting a strong mechanism that would trace out the root causes of the menace, Phassang assured IMC’s cooperation for establishment of a rehab centre in the Capital Complex with all required facilities. Founder-owner of Deepak Nabam Living Home, Deepak Nabam informed that besides serving old-age people, orphans, widow etc. his centre also helps the addicts in recovery process. Techi Kecha from Emmanuel Rehab Centre stressed on proper counselling and greater mass awareness and shared his own journey of coming out from addiction. Rajiv Bhattacharjee from Asha Bhawan informed that the centre has been running for the last four years and currently houses 14 people and conducts an 18-month residential rehab programme. As a measure for propagating more awareness on drugs, he suggested organizing seminars at schools/colleges and in sectors and colonies.
DMO Dr Mandip Perme said that rehabilitation process should be taken up on a war-footing. State Nodal Officer, Narcotics Control Bureau Oli Koyu underlined the need for an ICR-specific action plan. Cases of relapse among drug addicts are very high and a follow-up of status needs to be maintained, he said while requesting the NGOs to inform police about any drug-related activity. State Nodal Officer, Drug De-addiction Cell Dr Riken Rina highlighted the activities of the state’s de-addiction centres. Those who come out of rehabilitation centres post-recovery should be taken care to ensure complete rehabilitation and capacities of rehabilitation centres also need to be increased, the SP opined while underscoring the role of society and concerted efforts in containing the menace. The In-charges of the rehab centres shared various issues needing immediate attention and support from the government.
