ITANAGAR, Jul 18: Unless unlawful earth-cutting is stopped, maintenance of the national highway is difficult, said Executive Engineer(Highway) Nani Tath while responding to query on the dilapidated road condition from Naharlagun to Banderdewa.
Speaking to media, the Executive Engineer added that the department is carrying out maintenance work of the said road stretch but due to incessant rain, the work has been halted for a few days. "For proper maintenance, huge fund is required and after drawing of the agreement for Package B & Package C for the National Highway 415, the department cannot do much as the sole responsibility is on the concerned contractors."
Once the work of Package B & C will start, we can pressure the contractors to renovate the road but due to encumbrance of at least 126 structures the work is yet to be started, he added.
However, if the unlawful earth cutting doesn't stop, the state government nor the central government can do anything about it, asserted EE Nani Tath.
