PASIGHAT, Mar 2:  The Jan Pratha Utsav which was organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, an autonomous body under Ministry of Culture, Government of India here at Engo Takar De:re, Pasighat on February 24-26 last showcased various performing arts of North-East India in which around 300 artistes from all across the eight North-Eastern states participated.

North-East Coordinator, Jan Pratha Utsav, Delong Padung and Advisory member committee member of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Dr. Prashanna Gogoi termed the 3-day programme a great success. However, the duo expressed disappointed at the poor turnout of visitors despite ‘pick and drop’ facilities provided free of cost by the Sangeet Natak Akademi as a part to promote tribal arts of the North East.

Accordingly, performing artistes were also given high honorarium and artistes of North East were given the chance to avail scholarship, forms of which were made available at the venue.

Delong Padung, an awardee of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar National Award in 2013-14, also a board member of Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), New Delhi who is said to have taken pains to host the Utsav for the first time in Arunachal Pradesh expressed sorrow over the indifference towards local arts.

‘Had it been a concert or Bollywood performance, crowd would have automatically been drawn. But despite messages spread all across even in known social media forums and sites etc, very less interest was generated,’ said Padung. While our own local people gave little importance to the Utsav out of ignorance, it was going live across the globe through Webcast @ http://sangeetnatak.gov.in/sna/webcast.php, he added.

Earlier during the inaugural, MLA Kaling Moyong, graced the programme as Chief Guest while Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering graced as Guest of Honour.

Appreciating the SNA for organizing the ‘utsav’ at Pasighat, the duo also appealed the Akademi to give more importance to tribal folk arts of Arunachal in particular and North-East as a whole to its promotion.

Aini Taloh, Founding Chairman and Life head of ‘AYANG’, a popular voluntary blood donating NGO while attending the closing ceremony as chief guest deeply appreciated the initiative of the Akademi for hosting the event at the centurion town.
