ITANAGAR, MAY 25: Paras Singh, the controversial YouTuber whose racist remarks about the people of Arunachal Pradesh and MLA Ninong Ering created a stir in the state and Northeast was detained in Ludhiana, Punjab today by the Ludhiana Police and is currently under custody.
This was informed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) (Law & Order) Chukhu Apa during a press conference here at the Police Headquarter (PHQ) on Tuesday. The IGP informed that a case has been registered against Paras under sections 124A, 153A and 505(2) of the IPC for inciting enmity between groups after an official written FIR lodged by the MLA. “Initially, a total of 10 FIRs have been received by the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) from different unions and organizations and as the PHQ deals with cybercrime cases, all the complaints have been combined and registered into a single case,” he informed.
APP contacted the Police Commissioner of Ludhiana Rakesh Agarwal and under his direction a team led by Joint Commissioner Deepak Parik managed to detain Paras in Ludhiana after constant surveillance, the IGP divulged, adding that a team of the APP consisting of three members led by Inspector Techi Vijay has left for Ludhiana to bring Paras to Arunachal Pradesh for trial. “Tomorrow Paras will be under APP’s custody and shall be produced in court for seeking a transit remand so that he can be brought to Arunachal Pradesh as it’s an inter-state arrest. Our objective is to bring Paras here in the state within the next five days if the formalities are completed on time,” the IGP informed.
As the APP had no proper address of Paras and he was also on the run, a Special Investigative Team (SIT) monitored his social media accounts here at the PHQ in order to obtain his address. It is through these efforts the YouTuber’s Instagram account, phone number, Gmail, Facebook PUBG page and YouTube channel were accessed. Finally, the SIT got a lead from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation office where he had applied for a license on April 2 last.
Meanwhile, the IGP has appealed to the state’s people not to resort to offensive messages against Paras on any social media platform. If any individual is found to be indulging in such activities, they are also liable to be registered under appropriate sections of law and the department will not hesitate to take action against those individuals, he clarified.
