ZIRO, May 16: In the wake of surge in Covid cases in the district including two deaths in May, Lower Subansiri has decided to impose lockdown from May 22 to June 4. The decision was taken after an emergency consultative meeting on Covid-19 situation in the district held under the chairmanship of Minister Agriculture and Horticulture Er. Tage Taki today.
The modalities for the lockdown, uninterrupted vaccination drive and delivery of essential commodities will be worked out on Monday.
The Minister called for intensifying the vaccination drive across the district. "Lockdowns are not the permanent solution to this pandemic. The only permanent solution will be to develop herd immunity, which can be developed only through maximum vaccination coverage. We should ensure that the lockdown does not affect the vaccination program being carried out in the district," Taki added.
He exhorted all the ZPMs to identify vaccine beneficiaries of their jurisdiction and inform the district medical officer (DMO), who accordingly will plan special session sites for them.
Calling for strict compliance to lockdown SOPs that would be issued by the Administration, he added, "The implementation of lockdown in letter and spirit in their jurisdiction will be the responsibility of the ZPMs. Special care should be taken to control any kind of gatherings for social or leisure purposes."
He further announced 10 lakhs from MLAD for the medical department for covid control activities.
The ZPMs present in the meeting assured of full cooperation to the District Administration in tackling the pandemic.
They also informed that temporary gates have been installed outside containment zones which are being manned by volunteers under the guidance of the respective village development committees and the ZPMs.
