ITANAGAR, Apr 1: A delegation of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) along with the representatives of various District Students’ Union (DSUs) and the members of Tirap, Changlang, Longding & Namsai Students’ Unions of Itanagar and Rajiv Gandhi University today visited the fire-ravaged Longliang village under Lazu Block of Tirap district and handed over relief materials and a cash donation amounting to over Rs 16 lakh collected during the 3-day state-wide voluntary donation drive.
The delegation led by AAPSU General Secretary Tobom Dai interacted with the affected villagers to ascertain their post-inferno problems and handed over the relief materials to the Gaon Burah in presence of PRI members. Expressing satisfaction over the response from the state government in mitigating the crisis, Dai urged the village authorities to ensure proper utilization of the relief for rebuilding the lives of the affected villagers.
AAPSU has also arranged for rice to be equally distributed among the affected families through the All Tirap District Students’ Union (ATDSU) which shall reach the village once the road to Longliang is cleared, Dai informed. The team also visited the Government Secondary School, Lazu and interacted with the faculty members.
Later on the day, the visiting team called on DC Tirap Taro Mize at his official chamber and handed over a cash donation amounting to 16, 00,251. Out of it, Rs 914321 has been contributed by AAPSU and its federating units, Rs. 457410 by Tirap, Changlang, Longding & Namsai Students’ Union, Itanagar and Rs. 228520 by Tirap, Changlang, Longding & Namsai Students’ Union of Rajiv Gandhi University. Various issues pertaining to shortage of subject teachers at GSS Lazu, its shifting to the new site, problems of teachers quarter, dilapidated condition of the PMGSY road to Longliang and the immediate need for conducting a special medical camp for the villagers etc. were raised with the DC. The DC assured early posting of teachers at GSS Lazu and setting up of a medical camp in Longliang.
AAPSU has expressed its gratitude to the state’s people for their overwhelming support to the affected villagers. “People from all walks of life, right from Tawang to Longding who have felt the sufferings of the Longliang people have voluntarily contributed as per their capacities. It is this idea of Pan-Arunachal identity we as an organization have been striving for and should be imbibed by all of us,” Dai added. AAPSU PR
