Night curfew hours likely to be increased in ICR, DA calls emergency meeting today

ITANAGAR, May 4: In view of the  rapid surge in COVID cases in the state,  Health Minister Alo Libang today  informed that  Lockdown will be only imposed in the capital region  if the daily  sample collection reached 200 to 250 or 10 % positive detection.
As per the central SOP, there is a provision to call for Lockdown when daily collection reached 10 % and 60% of the availability of beds in the hospital gets filled. Moreover, the beds in the Dedicated COVID Health Canter –Midpu and  Dedicated COVID Hospital Chimpu, Itanagar  are already full  but the Department is  enhancing  160 more beds at DCH Chimpu, informed  Libang.
The Minister further stated that, if required Chief Secretary will take a call for Lockdown after properly analysing the situation and central guidelines for  COVID SOP.
When asked about the availability of oxygen in the state capital, he informed that there is no shortage of oxygen in the state and every district hospital has been provided at least one oxygen generating unit. We have one oxygen plant at DCH Chimpu that will generate at least 500 litres of oxygen per minute.
'We have a shortage of manpower, so we are rationalising the staff and have called back all the staff who are engaged as Nodal officers in different sectors of the department so that every possible help can be provided.'
While speaking on night curfew currently in place in the ICC, Libang informed that the Health department is in discussion with authorities to change the existing time of curfew from 9pm to 6pm.  'It is the public who can contain the spread of COVID, unless they support us we cannot fight it alone.'
On vaccine, the Minister informed that vaccine for 45 years and above is available but for 18 years and above there is shortage due to the unavailability of the vaccine in the production company. However, the state has already made its requirement and we hope that within a couple of months it will be available, he said.
Meanwhile, the Capital District Administration has called an emergency meeting on May 5th  to discuss the unprecedented surge of COVID cases in the ICR. The meeting will be attended by MLA Itanagar, Mayor IMC, all Corporators, Superintendent of Police, DMOs,DDMOs, Executive Engineers  and officials.
