BOLENG, Jul 15: Displaying sheer determination and a collaborative temperament worth emulating, the residents of Yeksi, Koreng, Pangin, Dosing villages and Pangin and Boleng towns in Siang district have built a foot-suspension bridge over the confluence of Siyom and Siang rivers as a temporary replacement to the Bailey suspension bridge that collapsed two weeks ago.
The collapse of the said bridge had cut off the district from the rest of the state and to alleviate the sufferings of people, a Bridge Construction Committee was constituted to temporarily restore the lifeline during an emergency public meeting initiated by Pangin-Boleng MLA Ojing Tasing. Tapang Tamut, who led the committee said that after assessing the situation, the District Administration procured rope wires, fittings and other materials within four days and within nine days, the foot-suspension bridge has been built which can not only accommodate 10 persons at a time, but also allow two-wheelers to ply. The team working on the construction of nearby Nugong bridge as well as the GREF personnel aided the community members with technical guidance.
Meanwhile, GREF JE (Civil) V. Krishnan has informed that the collapsed Bailey suspension bridge will be rebuilt by the first week of October 2021. A permanent bridge is also being constructed at the moment with a probable date of completion of March 31, 2023, he added. The SP, DC and ADC went to inspect the bridge and appreciated the community’s energy and commitment.
However, the district is suffering from yet another disruption at the construction site of the new Pasighat-Rottung road. Works are already underway and EE (Highway Division) Dabe Perme has informed that 2.5 km of the Rottung-Pasighat has been completed with 900 mtr of the route still left. The remaining portion involves rocky terrain and will be completed in approximately two weeks, the EE said. DIPRO
