ITANAGAR, Apr 19: In view of the alarming spike of COVID cases in the state, Health Minister Alo Libang along with Director TRIHMS Dr Moji Jini and others today inspected the dedicated COVID hospital in Chimpu to review preparations.
“As we all know that the second COVID wave has already hit the country and we have to take extra precaution. To review the state’s preparation, I along with a team of doctors and health experts are visiting the existing 40-bedded Dedicated COVID Hospital at the MLA Apartment in Chimpu,” Libang said while speaking to the media. We already have the COVID hospital, however, we couldn’t take chances and the purpose of the visit is to check the ground reality, preparedness and requirements, Libang stated while urging the people to follow all COVID SOPs and take vaccine doses.
Speaking on preparedness, Dr Jini informed that the existing COVID Hospital in Chimpu is equipped with all required facilities, however, the health team has worked on enhancing the capacity up to 160 beds so that in case of any eventuality, required medical help can be extended to the patients. Further, Dr Jini informed that they have already set up the extended COVID Hospital with facilities like oxygen supply in the same apartment. However, there are some issues with electricity and we have appealed to the Power Department and other line departments to fix the necessary requirements, he added.
The TRIHMS Director has appealed to the citizens to follow all SOPs like maintaining 6 feet distancing, avoiding social gathering, wearing  mask and using hand sanitizers.
Meanwhile, State Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona today participated in a virtual meeting of Presiding Officers of the State Legislatures and other leaders on the subject ‘Prevailing Covid-19 Situation and the Role and Responsibility of the Public Representatives’ initiated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Taking part in the discussion, Sona briefed the LS Speaker about the current COVID-19 situation in Arunachal Pradesh. He informed that though the situation as of now is better than other states, it can turn out to be critical in coming days if adequate care is not taken. While highlighting the steps taken by the Arunachal Assembly last year to contain the spread of the virus and in helping the stranded people, Sona assured that this year too, the State Assembly is ready to  initiate all necessary steps.
Chairing the meeting, the LS Speaker emphasized on how the public representatives can contribute in fighting against the pandemic virtually and physically. He stated that the situation is more precarious this year and suggested the members to be proactive, vigilant and spread awareness among people.
Birla also suggested setting up of COVID-19 Control Rooms at the State Assemblies like last year to monitor, assist and liaise on COVID-related issues with the Parliament COVID Control Room.
