TANI HAPPA, Jan 19: Continuing with its legal awareness campaign on women rights, a team of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) in coordination with Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) Sagalee branch today conducted a one-day programme here at the community hall of Government Upper Primary School. 
Chairperson APSCW Radhilu Chai Techi while speaking on gender equality said although the state has more girl population than boys, when it comes to property and inheritance, boys are given more importance. Advocating for providing better education to girl children, she lamented that in comparison to other states Arunachal Pradesh is still lacking in girls’ education and till today boys are given more opportunities to pursue higher education by parents. She called upon the GBs to judge without any bias especially the cases related to women. She further informed that APSCW has approached the state government to enhance the reservation of women in Gram Panchayats to 50%  from 33% for greater participation of women at grassroots-level governance.                
Resource persons spoke on topics such as domestic violence,  polygamy, compulsory registration of marriage and free legal aid. APWWS President Apop Unit Debia Para and President APWWS Sagalee branch Gollo Putung Nabam also spoke on the occasion. DIPRO
