NEW DELHI, Feb 23: Political leaders from the Northeastern states have strongly condemned the alleged racial slur incident in Malviya Nagar involving three women from Arunachal Pradesh. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma,  termed the incident unacceptable and called for strict action, while Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma Chief of Tribupa Motha also denounced the act and demanded immediate justice.
Adding to the growing response, Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha)  from Sikkim has written to the Delhi Police urging prompt and stringent action. In his February 23 letter addressed to the Special Commissioner of Police (SPUNER), Subba described the incident as a serious violation of constitutional values, stressing that racial humiliation and intimidation cannot be tolerated in the national capital.
The MP called for a fair and thorough investigation, verification of the viral video evidence, strict legal action against those found guilty, and adequate protection for the affected women. He emphasised that citizens from Northeast India are equal stakeholders in the nation and that unity cannot coexist with discrimination.
Meanwhile, Robin Hibu, Special Commissioner of Police and President of Helping Hands, has personally intervened in the matter to ensure swift action.
Hibu confirmed that he spoke directly with both the male and female victims from Arunachal Pradesh and advised them not to hesitate in lodging a formal complaint. An FIR has since been registered, and investigation is underway.
He also stated that he has spoken to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) and the SHO of Malviya Nagar Police Station, directing them to take strict and immediate action as the matter involves alleged racial slurs.
“I am personally monitoring the case to ensure prompt action on merit,” Hibu said, assuring the victims of full support and speedy justice.
Police officials are on the job, and further legal action will follow based on the outcome of the investigation. The incident has once again sparked concerns over racial discrimination faced by people from the Northeast in metropolitan cities, with authorities reiterating zero tolerance for such offences.
