TEZU, Jul 31:  A plantation programme “Green Lohit, Cool Lohit”, was launched today by Sotai Kri, Advisor to the CM of Arunachal Pradesh at Tezu.

Kri remarked that there has been gradual rise in temperature in Tezu Township in the recent years, owing to deforestation, causing much discomfort during summer season. “We need to restore greenery in the township, for which Tezu was once known for”, he added.

He also directed the president of a local NGO Himalayan Samaj Kalyan Samiti, Dhruva Gurung to ensure plantation of five to ten saplings in every residence of the government .employees, belonging to Gorkha community, within August, covering at least fifty houses.

 “The plantation drive will be subsequently extended to all government residences in Tezu Township”, he informed and urged the organization to take up cleanliness drive also under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, at selected localities and assured his participation in such progammes.

Earlier, ten saplings were planted at the official residence of the project officer, APEDA, at Civil Supply Colony here.
