Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
ITANAGAR, Jul 22: In a joint statement today, three organisations representing the Galo community namely Galo People’s Federation (GPF), Galo Youth Organisation (GYO) and Galo Students’ Union (GSU) have outrightly rejected the demand for inclusion of Kora Circle under Nari-Koyu assembly constituency of Lower Siang district into East Siang district raised by Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW) and AdiSu (Adi Students’ Union).
While terming the demand as “illogical”, the three organisations said it is an effort by the mischief mongers to create trouble in the otherwise peaceful 36th Nari-Koyu AC in particular and Lower Siang district in general. Recalling the history associated with the creation of Lower Siang district, the statement underlined that it was only after sustained efforts in the early nineties by the people of the foothills particularly 28th Likabali AC and 36th Nari-Koyu AC, Lower Siang was finally created and made operational as the 22nd district of Arunachal Pradesh, the chief objective of which was to redress the multi-pronged problems faced by the indigenous people living in these two constituencies. “While Siang and other districts were being bifurcated from West Siang, there were no objections from any quarters. Then why are some vested interested groups and individuals trying to derail the normal functioning of Lower Siang district and repeatedly trying to create animosity among different communities?,” the joint statement read.
Asserting that the entire geographical area of Lower Siang belongs exclusively to the inhabitants of the district, the organisations have said they will not stay silent to the repeated injustice meted out to the people of the foothills and the half-hearted approach shown by the state government in addressing genuine demands of the indigenous people of the land.
“How can an Administrative Circle which is part and parcel of Nari-Koyu AC be made a part of another district despite the fact that the constituency is a part of Lower Siang? This historic blunder needs immediate correction,” the statement pointed out. Referring to the District Reorganization Act, 2013 and seeking its implementation in letter and spirit, the GPF, GYO and GSU have demanded an immediate revocation of the status quo on Kora Circle and its inclusion under Lower Siang district.
Urging all stakeholders to respect the sentiments and aspirations of the people living in foothills, the organisations stated they will be compelled to go for rigorous democratic agitations in case their demand is not addressed.
