This is a healthy way of passing down the rich indigenous culture through generations, he added. Calling upon each tribe to participate in the festivals of all others, the Chief Minister said it will help in cementing the pan-Arunachal feeling that will thereby help in reinforcing the Team Arunachal concept necessary for the state’s progress. Appreciating the Gumin Rego Kilaju (GRK), a local NGO that started the popular BasCon Festival for its stupendous work in promoting Lepa Rada district, Khandu urged its members to come out with a practical concept that would not only promote the district but also help in attaining overall development and assured his wholehearted support to the initiatives.
Giving the reasons for travelling by road from Pasighat, the CM said it was intended to get a first-hand experience of its current condition. Referring to the problem on the Akajan-Likabali-Bame stretch under Package 2 which is about 33 km in length after Likabali, Khandu informed that it is under NHIDCL and he had spoken to its General Manager this morning. He too is personally touring the stretch right now, the CM revealed. “The first contractor that took the job couldn’t finish it and therefore the NHIDCL had to re-tender it. The second contractor which bidded for less than about 28 per cent also failed to complete the project and as a result a new tender has been floated again by NHIDCL. However, they have assured to complete the package within two years,” Khandu said while assuring to pursue the issue with the highest authorities.
Reiterating that road connectivity is a major priority of the government, the CM said he is committed to fulfil the promise to materialise the goal in Tali under Kra Dadi and Vijoynagar in Changlang. Deliberating on the pressing issues of polygamy, property rights to girls and drug addiction, Khandu sought people’s feedback, asserting that as times have changed there is a need to have a wider perspective of the age-old practices and adapt to changes wherever necessary. Meanwhile, he assured to establish the Central Zone Commissioner Office and Cultural Hall in Basar as announced earlier.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister flagged off the MTB Mopin Joy Ride Cum Awareness Ride 2021 organized by Arunachal Amateur Bicycling Association (AABA). Around 20 cyclists from across the country are participating in the event which will cover the Leparada district. During a meeting with the GRK, the CM was apprised about its activities, followed by an oath administered by MP Tapir Gao to the members with the pledge of relinquishing hunting, killing wild animals or consuming wildlife meat.
