TAWANG, Feb 8: Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the maiden Foundation Day celebration of the Monpa Institute of Performing Arts (MIPA) here on Sunday.
Appreciating the hard work of the students of MIPA which is a pilot project launched by the Department of Karmik & Adhyatmik Affairs (Chos-rig) in 2018, Khandu said its participation in almost all functions related to Monpa culture has become the hallmark of its functions. “You have become the true torch bearers of Monpa art and culture and through you our rich cultural heritage will survive and prosper,” the Chief Minister said while underscoring the importance of preservation and promotion of the Nalanda tradition practiced in the Himalayan belt. Besides calling upon the locals to speak in their own dialects, he stressed on the need for continuance of the age-old traditional practices like farming. “We need to practice and promote our traditional ways of farming which are organic as well as environment friendly,” Khandu asserted.
Informing that the state government will be laying the foundation stone of Major Bob Khathing Memorial in Tawang on February 14, the Chief Minister sought cooperation and participation of all and extended his Losar greetings. 
Adviser to the RWD Minister Jambey Tashi, MLA-cum-State BJP Vice President Ojing Tasing, DoKAA Chairperson Jambey Wangdi and State Organizing Secretary Ananta Narayan Mishra attended the event.  MIPA’s first batch comprising twenty students were given training by the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts for thirteen months and the institute annually admits a new batch of students based on their proficiency and interest.
