TAWANG, Mar 25: Community level skill development training under Jal Jeevan Mission which aims to impart skills to the villagers for routine maintenance of drinking water distribution assets commenced today in the state from Tawang.
Around 59 people from different villages of the district are participating in the training jointly conducted by State Jal Jeevan Mission and State Skill Development Department. As part of training villagers will be trained in the fields of plumbing, masonry, electric jobs etc., necessary for periodic maintenance of the drinking water system implemented under JJM. The training will help the villagers to undertake the responsibility of operation and maintenance of in-village components of drinking water assets and in creation of employment opportunities for them as they can be engaged by the contractors and departments in implementing the schemes. Currently, the said maintenance jobs are being done by skilled workers hired from outside the state and in many private buildings especially in towns it’s the same case. The training will be carried out in all other districts in the coming days.
JJM envisages empowerment of communities by instilling a sense of ownership among them regarding the drinking water assets. The in-village component of created drinking water assets in a village will be handed over to the community for future maintenance. The village water and sanitation committees will nominate the individuals for the training.
