ROING, May 22: On the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity celebrated here today at Roing, Member Secretary, APBB, IFS, N Tam stressed on the need on conserving every single species and requested the local people to be responsible citizen in maintaining the biodiversity that will also help in promoting ecotourism.

Also present on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Lower Dibang Valley, Deepak Shinde requested the panchayat institute to play pivotal role in constituting more biodiversity management committees in the district. He narrated the importance of bio resources of the state and encouraged documentation of the same through people biodiversity registers.

Earlier the DC, who graced the day as chief guest also released the people’s biodiversity registers of Kronu, Hunli and Kebali villages prepared by the biodiversity management team.

Apart from daylong celebration, prizes of the painting competition among the school children held earlier to mark the occasion were also given away to the winners.

More than 300 participants from 14 villages, HoDs of various departments in the districts, forest officials, biodiversity activist, school children and NGOs representatives attended the programme.

Few prominent personalities including Scientist Bombay Natural History Society, Parimal Chandra Roy, Wildlife Activist, Anoko Mega, Research officer, Tajum Yomcha etc also spoke various aspects of biodiversity and sustainable tourism in the awareness lectures held on the occasion.
