NAHARLAGUN, Dec 2: In a commendable display of interstate police cooperation, an 11-year-old girl kidnapped from Khatkati, Assam, was safely rescued in a joint operation by the Naharlagun Police and Assam Police on November 30 last. The case was registered under Khatkati Police Station Case No. 127/24 in Assam.
The operation also led to the apprehension of the accused duo, identified aa Bheta Chakma (45) and  Menaki Chakma, both residents of Karbi Anglong, Assam. The husband-wife pair had allegedly abducted the minor girl last month and was found hiding in Naharlagun.
The rescue mission was spearheaded by a team from Naharlagun Police led by Inspector K. Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, and SI Sunny Hodong, in close collaboration with Assam Police. The operation was conducted under the guidance of SP Naharlagun  Mihin Gambo and SDPO Shri Rishi Longdo.
The rescued minor and the apprehended accused have been handed over to Assam Police for further legal proceedings.
This operation underscores the commitment of ICR Naharlagun Police to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and highlights the effectiveness of interstate collaboration in addressing serious crimes. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent such incidents in the future, stated a release.
