Indian Army conducts ‘Know Your Army’ outreach
AALO, Jan 29: The 44th Battalion Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry on the occasion of 72th Republic Day paid rich tributes to late Tape Yajo, the valiant Naik of the Indian Army who made the supreme sacrifice fighting terrorists and posthumously awarded with Kirti Chakra.
Hailing from Karo village under Monigong Circle in Shi-Yomi district, late Yajo was the epitome of gallantry who served the Indian Army with distinction for over 12 years. He was critically injured during an anti-terrorist operation in Jammu & Kashmir while leading a scout tasked to eliminate hardcore terrorists in Poonch sector on September 21, 2008. During the operation, terrorists attacked unexpectedly from close range with heavy automatic guns and in the ensuing gunfight Yajo was grievously wounded after being riddled with multiple bullets. Despite bleeding profusely, he charged the terrorists and along with his team killed three of them. He succumbed to his injuries the next day. As an acknowledgement of his gallantry, Yajo was awarded with Kirti Chakra posthumously.
Besides this, he was also the recipient of 50th Year of Independence Anniversary Army medal, Videsh Seva medal with Clasp Bhutan, Special Seva medal with Clasp Suraksha, OP Rakshak medal, High Altitude medal, 9 Years Long Service medal and OP Parakram medal.
All the family members of valiant soldiers who made supreme sacrifices for the nation were also felicitated by the Battalion on the occasion. DIPRO
