ITANAGAR, Dec 3: Deprived of road connectivity for decades, 2700 voters across 24 villages in Kangku Circle under Likabali constituency have announced to boycott the coming Bye –Election onDecember 12. The decision is part of their ongoing ‘No Road No Vote’ agitation registering their angst for being deprived of road connectivity for the last 28 years.
Villagers have also launched a signature campaign declaring not to cast their vote until and unless government gives a positive nod. Even Gaon Burahs of the 24 villages are ready to give-up their position demanding the construction of the elusive 65km road stretch.
Speaking to media persons at press club today, President, Galo Peoples Front, Nyadar Loya said ‘For last many decades, innocent villagers have been fooled by verbal assurances during election time but now people want road connectivity in the circle. Without any concrete decision by the state government, the 24 villages will not participate in the voting process across nine polling booths in the area.’
Loya, further added that several memorandums have been submitted to the Chief Minister but they have not evoked any positive response from the state government. The agitating villagers have also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the absence of road in this 21st century as well as to the Election Commission of India on the ‘No Road No Vote’ agitation.
‘There is no political agenda nor are we against any political party. We only want the attention of the Centre as it is high time for them to make a decision for the people of Kangku Circle who have been deprived of road connectivity since last many decades,’ asserted the GPF President.
‘During every election, leaders make the road connectivity to Kangku circle as their main agenda but the moment they win the election they forget everything. This has been going on for last many decades,’ lamented Mikjom Taso, Coordinator Central Committee Kangku Circle while adding that this time there will be no compromise on the ‘No Road No Vote’ agitation.
