SHILLONG, Jun 20: Expressing shock over the decision of the government to increase the bus fare of Itanagar –Shillong from existing Rs 450 to 610, the Arunachal Student Union, Shillong (ASUS) has served an ultimatum to government to revoke  its order dated No. TPT (B)/70/09/2014, dated July 29 last immediately, otherwise it has threatened to launch democratic movement.

While comparing the price of tickets with the private buses running to Shillong from Itanagar, the union stated it is equivalent to the fare charged by private transport buses.

Terming the decision as offensive, the union also accused the concern department for dropping the earlier decision to deploy two bus services per day to Shillong, thereby creating lots of resentment among the people travelling to Shillong for education or medical purpose.

In addition, the union also called for granting 50% concession in Bus fare for the students studying in Shillong and 50% concession for the economically backward medical patients visiting North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (neigrihms).
