 World Tuberculosis Day observed across the state

YUPIA, Mar 24: The District Health Society (RNTCP) in collaboration with State Health Society (RNTCP), district administration and Care & Support Centre Vihaan observed the World Tuberculosis Day with rest of the whole world in a befitting manner with the theme ‘Unite to End TB’ by organizing TB awareness procession and seminar at community centre, Doimukh on Friday.

 The chief guest on the occasion, DC cum Chairman District Health Society (RNTCP) Tai Kaye while addressing the gathering said that TB is curable and preventable with education and awareness among the masses. He requested the health workers to work with missionary zeal to spread awareness on prevention of TB in localities where there is report of occurrence of more TB patients in vulnerable areas like slums. The DC also flagged off an awareness procession at Doimukh gate this morning.

Addressing the gathering DMO Papum Pare Dr. Tasso Kampu said that prevention of TB is challenging and number of deaths recorded in the year 2016 itself is alarming. Stressing on more effort on spreading awareness and counselling for treatment of infected people, she also emphasized on involving the services of PRI leaders, Anganwadis, workers, ASHAs and other community workers in prevention of TB.

She further said ‘TB is not a stigma disease anymore, it is curable, people should come forward without hesitation for helping the people with TB and must work unitedly to root out TB from the world.’

 She also hailed the effort of DTO (RNTCP) Naharlagun for their endeavour to prevent TB and asked them to work with more dedication to minimize the rate of TB population in the district.
Dr. T. Kumar SMO cum Nodal Officer while giving the vote thanks note informed about the dismal condition of DR TB centre at Naharlagun and requested the DMO for taking up the matter at higher level for construction of DRTB at par standard with rest of the country.
Earlier, Dr. Thongchi, District Tuberculosis officer (RNTCP), gave presentation on district profile and world TB day.

At BOMDILA,

The District Health Society (RNTCP) Bomdila observed the day at Gontse Gaden Rabgye-Ling (GRL) Monastery, Upper Gompa, attended by more than two hundred monks along with the teaching staff of Shanti Deva Vidyalaya.

Dr. RD Thongchi, DTO Bomdila briefing the gathering about Tuberculosis, dealt at length on its mode of transmission, signs and symptoms, tools for diagnosis especially on Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CBNAAT), free treatment and precautions to be taken during the treatment period and personal hygiene issues. The motive behind observing the day was to generate awareness amongst the monks of the monastery.

 At YINGKIONG,

The day was observed at Simong village in Upper Siang District with a community meeting attended by the villagers, teachers and students of one middle school and two primary schools of the village. Dr. Radesh Tatan, District Medical Officer, advised the gathering to avail the RNTCP services available in the District. Dr. Ahik Miyu, District TB Officer, highlighted the sign and symptoms of TB; dynamic of disease transmission and its preventive measures and the free services under RNTCP. Tagin Litin, HGB of the village, a cured TB patient, shared his experience and urged upon the gathering to consult service provider at the slightest doubt for early detection and cure. Honoraria for 5 TB patients were disbursed on the spot. Many former cured patients and parents shared their positive experience.

At TAWANG,

 The World Tuberculosis Day was observed today at Bongleng village and was attended by PRI members, GBs, ASHAs and villagers. 
Thuten Tashi ASM, Ngading who was the chief guest on occasion requested the participants for a collective effort to end TB.

Speaking during the celebration, Dr.Urgen Lhamu, DPO (RNTCP) advised the ASHAs who are the indirect primary health facilitators in the villages to play an active role in propagating health education including TB in their respective areas. She highlighted the grave concern about TB/HIV co-infection and reiterated that awareness is the best method to prevent the spread of the disease.

Dr. A Perme of Bongleng PHC also spoke on the occasion.
