ITANAGAR, May 19:  In a significant achievement and proud moment for Arunachal, renowned footballer of the state, Gumpe Rime has been appointed as goalkeeping coach for the Indian national team for the scheduled AFC Asia Cup qualifiers to be played against Kyrgyzstan Republic in Bangalore on June 13 next. The camp is being held in Mumbai from May 20 onwards.

Hailing from West Siang district, Gumpe Rime is a former Indian footballer (goal keeper) who began his professional football career with Mahindra United in 1995. He then went on to play for reputable clubs like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited S.C.SalgaocarVasco, and Shillong Lajong and is the current Head of Youth Development for SLFC.

He joined Shillong Lajong FC in 2009 and was the first choice Goalkeeper when the Club gained its first I-League berth. Gumpe was also instrumental in helping Lajong finish as runners up of the Federation Cup in 2010. 

He remained with Lajong until 2012 as a Goalkeeper but at the same time mentored the Junior Red’s Goalkeepers. He then joined the prestigious Tata Football Academy in 2012 as an Academy Coach and made a great contribution to the development of Players at TFA.
