ITANAGAR, Feb 28:  A delegation of the Galo Students Union (GSU) called on Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his office chamber on Tuesday and submitted a 10-point memorandum seeking the posting of Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police including sufficient funds for infrastructure development of the new created Lower Siang district.

Expressing concern over report of exclusion of area under 36th Nari-Koyu Assembly Constituency in the map of Lower Siang District, it apprised the Chief Minister about the age-old relations of Galos residing in the Nari-Koyu circles with the other areas of the proposed Lower Siang district belt.

“Culturally and ethnically the people of both these circles shares same relations with Galo brethrens,” informed GSU adding that creating an artificial barrier and separating them administratively will create a sense of deprivation and alienation among the people of these two circles.

Also reminding the government of the promise to create Leppa Rada district during the tenure of Former Chief Minister Late Dorjee Khandu in 2008, it union urged the CM to initiate action on immediate approval for the said district in the upcoming cabinet sitting.

Posting of healthcare professionals at District Hospital, Aalo and introduction of science stream at Donyi Polo Govt. College, Kamki, etc were among its other requests.

After a patient hearing, the Chief Minister said that the government would extend all possible help for further development of the Lower Siang district.

In response to the demand for posting of DC and SP, Khandu stated that he is personally monitoring and will take immediate action in this regard.

Regarding creation of Leppa Rada which is long overdue since 2009, the CM stated that he needs cooperation of all his cabinet colleagues regarding the same.
