ITANAGAR, Apr 20: Governor Brig. (Dr) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) has proposed that an office of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) be established in Arunachal Pradesh so that it can provide scientific advice and technical support to the state regarding matters of food safety and nutrition.
The Governor made the proposal to the Director, FSSAI, Eastern & Northeastern Region Col. Pramod Dahitule who called on him today at the Raj Bhavan. They discussed issues ranging from ingredients, manufacture, usage of preservatives, storage and shelf life of consumables, their distribution and sale etc. The Governor emphasised on generating awareness among the state’s consumers about food safety and food standards and asked the FSSAI to conduct training programmes for entrepreneurs engaged in the businesses of food production and distribution.
Health protection of consumers should be the prime concern of manufacturers, he asserted.
