NEW DELHI, Apr 3: Governor Brig. (Dr) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) today visited the National War Memorial here in the national capital and laid a wreath at the eternal flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti as a mark of homage to the martyrs of the Indian Armed Forces who made supreme sacrifice for the cause of nation’s safety and territorial integrity.
Spread over 40 acres of land near the India Gate, the National War Memorial has the names of armed forces personnel killed during military conflicts with Pakistan and China as well as the 1961 operation in Goa, Operation Pawan, counter-insurgency operations in Sri Lanka and other operations such as Operation Rakshak etc., all inscribed in golden letters. The name of Arunachal’s gallant son Havildar Hangpan Dada Ashoka Chakra (posthumous) of Assam Regiment is conspicuously visible in the list. Havildar Hangpan Dada was awarded the nation's highest peacetime military decoration in August 2016. Earlier, the Governor and the state’s First Lady Neelam Misra were received and conducted around the highly impressive memorial layout by the Brigadier Ceremonial of 18 Maratha, Brig. Baruah.
The Governor signed the visitors’ book and wrote touching lines for the martyrs. He wrote: “Martyrs! With great pride, I salute your bravery, gallantry and supreme sacrifice which you made for the cause of the country. You shall always be our role model. We promise to emulate your patriotism and your devotion to duty.” PRO Raj Bhavan
