Citing examples of historical monuments, he said that although their physical structures undergo ruin due to passage of time, the scripts and calligraphy on Mon Shugu can be kept for centuries. The indigenous tradition of paper making provides an ever expanding avenue for home consumption and exports and more employment opportunities for the local youths, he said while hoping that Mon Shugu will enjoy a good market presence in near future. He also recalled the January 31 episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ wherein Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned about the traditional paper.
Assuring to popularise Mon Shugu amongst other Governors and Lieutenant Governors of the country, the Governor asked the Chief Minister to write to his colleague Chief Ministers to popularise it. Referring to the 'Vocal for Local' and 'Atma Nirbhar' initiatives, he suggested the state government to publicise the millennium-old traditional product among all foreign High Commissioners and Ambassadors by inviting them to the state. On the occasion the Chief Minister announced the gifting of boiling and mashing machines to every family engaged in Mon Shugu paper making at the earliest.
