ITANAGAR, Mar 5: Governor (Dr) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) today distributed aids and assistive devices to the Divyangjans and senior citizens while participating in the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir as Chief Guest here in the state capital in presence of Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Ratan Lal Kataria, State Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs Alo Libang and other high-ranking officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor called for participation and contribution of people from all walks of life in making the lives of physically and mentally disabled people better and assured that the Central and State governments will continue to lend a helping hand to them. He suggested to the Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), MoSJ&E Shakuntala D Gamlin who was also present on the occasion to expedite the foundation laying event of the proposed Artificial Limb Manufacturing cum Wellness Centre (ALM & WC) coming up in the state within this month. Establishment of the ALM&WC will address the requirements of the physically challenged persons in the state and provide scope for youth employment and entrepreneurship in the field, the Governor observed. Welcoming the Union MoS, he said that since coming into power of the current government in Delhi, every fortnight a Central minister or a senior bureaucrat visits the state to assist in its developmental plans and programmes. On behalf of the state’s people he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in the development of Arunachal Pradesh. Eleven Divjangjans received wheelchairs, smart phones, smart canes, Braille kit, Daisy player and Hearing aids from the Governor under the DIP scheme of the Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana. These items will also be dispatched in larger numbers to the Divyangjans in other parts of the state including the handicapped students of Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu.
