ITANAGAR, Mar 18: Governor Brig. (Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) in two separate interactions today met the Minister for Urban Development etc. Kamlung Mosang and Mayor, Itanagar Municipal Corporation Tame Phassang here at the Raj Bhavan.
Discussing issues relating to land encroachment in the twin capitals, solid waste management and Miao-Vijoynagar road with the UD Minister, the Governor shared his concern regarding encroachment, particularly of government lands and stressed on corrective actions in this regard. A strong message must go that encroachment will not be tolerated coupled with thorough investigation of all reported and noticed cases, he said. While sharing his worries regarding the solid and liquid waste management plant currently lying unused in Chimpu, he opined for taking immediate steps for its revival along with adoption of long-term waste management plans that would cater for the next 15 years. Discussing the progress status of the Miao-Vijoynagar road with the Minister who is also the local MLA of the area, the Governor suggested placing the supply orders for 11 bridges planned on the road for their manufacturing. Abutments and embankments for launching these bridges must be prepared now so that there is no loss of time, he added. 
“The acid test of the Miao-Vijoynagar road will be when a civil bus will be able to operate nonstop in all-weather conditions throughout the year,” he said while informing the Minister about the assistance offered by the Indian Army in its completion.
Meeting the IMC mayor the Governor discussed various public-interest matters including cleanliness in the ICR, encroachment of public land and the city’s solid and liquid waste disposal facilities.
Besides urging Phassang to incorporate sustainable solid waste management plans, the Governor emphasised on improving the public health and sanitation facilities for denizens. He advised the mayor to reactivate the Chimpu solid waste management plant and asked him to remove the puddles and muddy filth from the roadside in the heart of the city by constructing proper drainage facilities. Judicious use of land and strict upholding of building construction regulations to prevent human casualties during natural and manmade disasters, removal of encroachments from government lands, parks and public places and proper monitoring of water supply for the households were the other issues the Governor drew attention of the mayor. While advising to involve the city’s youths in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he advised the mayor to stress on proper maintenance of all existing urban amenities and facilities such as parks, gardens and playgrounds. Stressing on framing of long-term plans for maintaining the public amenities the Governor suggested the mayor to coordinate with the UD Minister for Urban Development at the earliest.

Reminding the iconic significance of the Ganga Market Clock Tower, the Governor asked the mayor to take steps for its preservation. The mayor assured the Governor to personally address and monitor the issues discussed in the meeting. PRO Raj Bhavan
