DEOMALI, Jul 30: At a time when there is a marked escalation of tension due to border disputes in various parts of the Northeast, a high-level interstate border districts coordination meeting between the administrative, police and forest officers of Dibrugarh district of Assam and their counterparts of Tirap was held today here at the Deomali subdivision.
The goodwill meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Tirap Taro Mize, Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh P. Gopal Jha, Tirap SP Kardak Riba and Dibrugarh SP S. Mishra.
After a day-long meeting that discussed issues such as improvement of road connectivity and joint patrolling by Assam and Arunachal Pradesh Police and forest officials for checking illegal timber logging, mining and liquor transportation, it was decided to maintain the status quo through coordination and cordial relationship between the people of both the states in the border areas. Responding to a request from DC Tirap for hassle-free interstate travel facilities and more people-to-people interactions, the Dibrugarh DC assured for an early maintenance of the Joypur-Hukanjuri route for better transportation. The DCs of both Dibrugarh and Tirap also agreed to conduct similar goodwill meetings involving the administrations from time to time to reinforce the cordial relationship between the two states. The meeting started through felicitation of DC Dibrugarh with a traditional Nocte coat by DC Tirap who in turn was felicitated by his Assam counterpart with Assamese Gamusha.
