Aalo, Jan 11: Galo Welfare Society (GWS) observed its 21st Foundation Day here on January 10 last which saw the participation of various high-level officials of the West Siang District Administration.
Addressing the event, Deputy Commissioner Moki Loyi while deliberating on the rich legacy of the Galos stressed on motivating the youths of today to carry forward the traditions. Any society can thrive and prosper on the basis of commitment and oneness among the members to make it more vibrant and the onus has to be shifted to the younger generation, he said, adding that dilution of traditional rituals and beliefs in the name of modernization must be checked. Counting of genealogy among the Galo makes it unique and there is need to preserve it for posterity, the DC opined. ADC Yomcha Hento Karga and EAC Aalo Maryom Karlo stressed on galvanizing of thought patterns among the members of the community.
GWS Advisers Doi Ado and Kento Ete, newly elected ZPMs Damli Niri, Higam Loyi Ango and Mari Kato dwelt at length on mushrooming of clan-based Societies and stressed on awareness at all levels to keep GWS the apex organization of the Galos.
GWS Secretary Duggum Ado and Convener Dr Kejom Padu sought support from all the members to take up the awareness movement at grassroots level. DIPRO
